Military leader of Libya’s national army Mahmoud Al Warafli survived from an attempt of assassination in Benghazi, as a suicide bomber exploded his car during the passage of the Libyan military leader’s procession. According to a military source, Warafly has survived from the failure attempt, saying that he suffered minor injuries.
In the same context, the Libyan military forces launched attacks in the western side of the Libyan city, as they targeted the surrounding areas of Buildings (12), that are considered the last stronghold of the extremist group. Spokesperson of the Libyan army Ahmed Al Mesmary said that the military leadership pushed more armored vehicles and other military equipment to the front line, while he did not give any more details.
On the political side, a number of western diplomats, including ambassadors of U.S, Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, issued a statement calling the different conflicting parties in Libya to suspend all forms of violence that undermine the efforts aiming to achieve national reconciliation. They called the Libyans for deciding their future, expressing their readiness to support the efforts aiming to build a unified and strong state.
The western diplomats condemned the clashes that took place two days ago in the southern area of Tripoli, as they welcomed the cease-fire announced by the internationally-recognized National Accordance government led by Fayez Al Sarraj. They stressed that the use of force should be limited to the state institutions and their security authorities.
Clashed erupted early Friday between militants related Libya’s National Salvation Government and others loyal to the internationally-recognized National Accordance at Tripoli’s residential Bousleim area. The militant used the heavy weapons, including tanks, leading to the killing of six persons and the injury of 16 others.
The local council of Libya's Bousleim area announced the cease-fire between the militants loyal to the National Salvation government and forces of internationally-recognized National Accordance government, as the ministries of Interior and Defense deployed their forces in the areas of the clashes that erupted between the two parties on early Friday.
The local council hosted the meeting attended by members of the conflicting national accordance government and salvation government in addition the country's security leaders to discuss the security situation and the possibility to cease fire. The organizers of the meeting called for withdrawing the militants to pave the way for implementing the agreement.
