With its myriad of yellow butterflies are dancing over the azure swell of the Caribbean sea. A hungry pelican dives down into the waves, your skin is slowly crisping in the tropical sunshine on this white sandy beach, those are things that you can do in the Blue Waters Resort, on the north side of the Caribbean island of Antigua.
It is Antigua Island, and it will be one of the most romantic places you have seen in your life.
In addition, the romance does not even stop there. The striking colonial style of the hotel - the wrought iron lanterns, the wooden shutters, the nautical-inspired chandeliers made from rope - will make you long for a staggeringly handsome pirate to leap from behind a palm tree and whisk away.
Blue Waters opened its doors in 1960, making it one of the longest established resorts on the island but there is nothing tired and faded here.
When you drag yourself away from its beaches, you will find the 17 acres of tropical gardens at the resort are an unexpected highlight with a riot of floral colour blossoming at every turn.
Most of the complimentary watersports available and take out a hobie cat to go snorkelling on the nearby reef. A distinctive attraction of staying in the Cove Suite – apart from the gloriously large, tastefully decorated room, the free-standing bath and help-yourself mini bar – is its concierge service.
Every morning at breakfast, we are greeted by a smiling member of staff booking us into the restaurants for dinner and checking on our well-being. If you cannot relax there, you cannot relax anywhere. You can connect with staff via phone throughout the day, which is reassuring the clients. Blue Waters provide you also the car rental service throughout the day.
Blue Waters boasts three restaurants: The Palm, which offers international cuisine from both a buffet service and an à la carte menu; Caribbean-inspired Bartley’s; and The Cove – the jewel in the resort’s culinary crown – with its Caribbean French fusion.
Perched on a cliff top, the candlelit restaurant affords excellent views of the sea by day but in the darkness we are instead serenaded by the waves.
