Ramadan tourism
Cairo – Mohammed Ammar

Tourist guide Merhan Saad said that Ramadan tourism has improved a lot in many Arab countries and most of the world’s Muslims spend Ramadan in countries like Egypt for its distinctive habits such as, charity food tables, and Islamic touristic sites especially in Al-Azhar, Al-Hussein, Ancient Egypt, Al-Sagha and Al-Ghouria. Morocco also is known for its Islamic old buildings.

Merhan Saad said in a statement to “Arab Today” that, Saudi Arabia ranks first in Ramadan tourism, because pilgrims come to Mecca throughout the month from around the world, adding that, there are some countries in north Africa that has this kind of tourism such as, Mauritania and Tunisia especially their rural areas.

She confirmed that, this type of tourism existed a long time ago, and the fact that, the majority of these Arab countries still follow Islam helps spreading Ramadan tourism, and some of Asia’s countries are interested in this type of tourism such as, Indonesia, Malaysia and some parts of India.

Merhan said that, many Arab countries competed against each other through Ramadan tourism. Bahrain started receiving Ramadan differently in the last few years, as it began holding entertainment shows in big malls, children competitions and offers on Ramadan goods, while Dubai decorates its streets, holds talk shows with passing citizens, conducts religious and cultural competitions in the streets and also holds Quran memorization competitions.
