President of Algerian National Association of Traders and Craftsmen Taher Boulnouar said that prices of food, including vegetables, red and white meat are suitable for low-income citizens during the holy month of fasting of Ramadan. He said that the Islamic holy month coincides with the harvest season this year, praising the governmental efforts to keep food stocks.
He expressed his appreciation for the government for allowing importers to bring meat from abroad, saying that the decision performs a major role to meet the needs of people during the holy month of fasting. He stressed that the decision also will reduce the prices of meat during the coming period. He added that Algeria imports between 60,000 and 70,000 tons of frozen meat annually.
He pointed out that the number of sheep in Algeria exceeds 25 million heads and the number of cattle exceeds 2 million heads, which is a large amount to cover the internal demand, praising the decision taken by the Algerian government to stop the import of questionable Brazilian meat. He called the Algerian investors for working in the field of livestock raising of various kinds such as cattle and sheep.
He stressed that the importation of livestock from abroad cost the Algerian treasure of large amounts of money, saying that the Algerian government exerts increasing efforts to contain spending during the coming period to ease the current financial and economic crisis witnessed in the country.
She continued that they work currently to prepare an inclusive file over the purchasing power of the Algerian citizen to discuss the current economic situation of the weak labor categories due to the insane rise in market prices and taxes.
She signaled that the leading members of the independent trade unions raised the necessity of unifying the proposals related the new labor law, stressing the need for defending the rights of Algerian workers and to avoid the repetition of the budget law of 2016 that left negative repercussions on the Algerian worker.
