Pakistan has lifted a ban on the import and screening of movies from neighbouring India after months of suspension amid tension over the disputed region of Kashmir.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced the government would uphold a 2007 decision to lift a ban on importing Indian film content, adding in a statement that "the Pakistani film industry has been revived and strengthened" by Indian cinema.
The screening of Indian movies in Pakistani cinemas was blocked in October last year following escalation of tensions with India over the latter's unprovoked ceasefire violation along the Line of Control. The ban was imposed by the Film Exhibitors Association of Pakistan.
