Syrian writer Adnan Farzat Syrian writer Adnan Farzat praised the recent decision taken by Egypt’s President Mohammed Morsi to cut relations with the Syrian regime although he says it came too late.
He stressed the situation in Syria witnessed notable deterioration and blames the Syrian regime for allowing foreign movements to interfere in the current conflict.
Arab Today met with Farzat in the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria during a conference to discuss his new story:  The President Was My Friend.
Can you describe what is currently happening in Syria?
"The situation has witnessed notable deterioration, as the ruling regime of President Bashar al-Assad tries to turn the Syrian revolution from a public revolution aiming to eliminate oppression and suppression to another direction.”
Adnan blames the Syrian government for using foreign groups in the current internal conflict. He stresses the interference of the foreign groups in the current war in Syria reflects the failure of the Syrian regime, despite the military support Adnan believes Syria’s government receives from its allies to use against its people.
How do you see the interference of Hezbollah in the current battles witnessed in Syria?
“Assad’s regime works to turn the objectives of the Syrian revolution into other objectives by turning the Syrian conflict into a sectarian war. The Syrian people strongly refuse such a war. We refuse the extremism, as the Syrian people with their different sects and components are the serious leaders of the revolution.”
“It is not a war between the sects in Syria, while it is a revolution against the oppression and corruption. Regarding to the interference of Hezbollah in the Syrian conflict, I think that it would not help the Syrian regime.” Adnan believes it would not turn the nature of the current Syrian conflict into a sectarian war.”
How do you assess the Egyptian decision to cut relations with Syria’s regime?
“Of course, we welcome this decision,” he said, "As it came to serve the interests of the Syrian people although it came too late. I expect the Syrian people would express their pleasure of such a decision, as it could pressure the Syrian government.”
How do you see the US decision to support Syrian opposition connected with arms?
“We are hoping for the success of the Syrian revolution without any foreign interference, while the American support is necessary during the current period. Damascus’s government used its foreign allies to attack the Syrian people.” Adnan added he wants the international community to impose a no-fly zone against Syria and believes this decision would end the fighting and the conflict in a short period.
What is your opinion about the current demonstrations seen  in Turkey? Could these demonstrations affect the Turkish aids to the Syrian refugees on its territories?
“Demonstrations in Turkey came for entertainment. The demonstrators do not suffer from difficult economic situations, as they protest against a governmental decision about a square. These demonstrations are weak compared to the number of supporters of Turkish Prime Minister Ragab Tayeb Erdogan.”
Adnan told Arab Today he does not think the Turkish forces would be affected, stating: "The Turkish regime provided support for the Syrian people when supporting the refugees who turned to Turkish territories.”
