If there is one place on earth that DC and Marvel characters can coexist peacefully, it is the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2017). Wonder Woman, Batman, Aquaman, Captain America, Iron Man, the Flash, Green Lantern, and the whole spate of world famous web-slinging, time travelling guardians of the world are having a blast meeting and greeting fair visitors, touring around the halls of Expo Centre Sharjah in their special superhero mobiles.
“Take a selfie, take a selfie,” the kids are chanting clamoring on top of each other to get one-of-a-kind photos as they come face-to-mask with their favourite comic characters. They are thoroughly enjoying their meet-and-greets, as they lock a heroic handshake with Captain America, strike legendary poses with Batman and Iron Man.
This act is part of hundreds of activities that the book fair has organised under a brand-new category ‘Comics Activities’. Hall 7 at the Expo is dedicated entirely to the lovers of comics, graphic novels, video games, and more. A Comics Exhibition at the centre of the hall features a Comicave exhibit, a PlayStation pavilion with many PS4 gaming experience consoles, an Artist’s Alley, and several workshop spaces where visual artists and graphic designers from around the world are hosting an array of interesting sessions on character development, design, drawing and more.
For anyone who has even a passing interest in the world of comic books, superheroes, digital games, and the creative arts must definitely go have a look before Saturday, 11 November.
