Globe-trotting instrumentalist Yanni has announced a second Abu Dhabi concert. The announcement comes following news that tickets for his Friday, September 30, performance at du Forum had sold out. The additional concert will be held on Thursday, September 29.
The Greek composer, a regular UAE visitor, and his 15-piece band arrive in the capital for the first time, touring their latest release Sensuous Chill. While he might known for playing to tens of thousands of fans at historic landmarks – such as Greece’s Acropolis, India’s Taj Mahal and Dubai’s Burj Khalifa – Yanni previously told us he was looking forward to the relative intimacy and control offered by the Yas Island venue, which holds 2,500 seated guests.
"When you go in an indoor venue the music sounds better, you have more control of the lights and sound that people hear," the 61-year-old says. "It’s a great thing to play to 50,000 or 100,000 people – and a great thing to play in a small venue that’s really lean and clear, where they can touch you and you can touch them."
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix race ticket holders from 2015 and 2016 can receive a 20 per cent discount on Silver Category (Dh495) tickets for the Yanni show.
