Oman Customs and the Royal Oman Police have warned the public of the dangers of fireworks.
The Royal Oman Police have stepped up their efforts to ensure safety for the public and to provide the best policing services during the Eid Al Fitr holiday.
"Given the advent of Eid al-Fitr and the accompanying phenomenon of launching firecrackers with its danger on public safety, Royal Oman Police announces that a tight control has been imposed on all official ports to curb any attempt to smuggle firecrackers," the ROP announcement stated.
Hundreds of illegal firecrackers and fireworks have been confiscated within just the last month, and the Royal Oman Police are taking matters seriously.
An official source at the Royal Oman Police confirmed that police patrols will be stepped up in places where the public is going to be entertained during the Eid holiday.
He also added that patrols will be intensified in various areas, which are expected to be crowded with public buildings, parks and next to residential areas.
Since the beginning of June, more than 6,000 pieces of fireworks have been confiscated by Oman Customs at the border crossings, the force tweeted.
"ROP will also pursue all the persons who smuggle firecrackers or sell them inside the Sultanate and will take all legal procedures against them, including bringing them to competent courts."
He urged parents to monitor their children from the dangers of playing with fireworks and fireworks, and not to let them play alone on public streets. All police stations are always ready and continue to communicate with the public to help them.
The ROP spokesperson warned against the dangers of promoting and using firecrackers.
“Facing them is a societal responsibility because of the dangers of using them by community members, especially children, as well as damage to property caused by fires,” the source said.
The ROP is also asking all parents to monitor their children and provide advice and guidance regarding the dangers of using such firecrackers.
According to Oman Customs, fireworks and firecrackers can harm children and adults in a variety of ways.
Burnt skin, loss of hearing, and eye injuries are some of the injuries that can be sustained by fireworks.
The source called on the public to report any phenomenon or behavior contrary to the law by calling the police operations center (9999), stressing the importance of maintaining security and stability at all times so everyone can enjoy the holiday.
