Jordanian designer Sherine Kana'an loved the crochet craft since her childhood, and worked on developing this profession because it is the art of grandmothers and many people began to forget the ancient arts.
Kana'an said, in interview with Arabs Today, that she began working in crochet as a hobby, but everyone around her liked the crochet pieces she made and started to ask her to make special pieces for them. "A year and a half ago, I began to present my products on Facebook," she said, adding that she was surprised by the people's demand for these pieces.
Kana'an began to make clothes from crochet, in addition to kitchen accessories, bathrooms and decorations that complement the house decorations, and produced pieces for children in cartoon forms.
She indicated that the crochet of grandmothers was limited to clothes only, but with the advancement of social networking sites and satellite channels, people are asking for new pieces of crochet.
Kana'an added that the art of crochet is an art that needs precision and attention to its production, pointing out that she chooses her designs from pictures sent by customers asking for a particular form of crochet. She is using wool, needle, thread, silicon and string.
She added that the most required pieces of crochet are ornamental pieces to complete the home decorations that give the house elegance. "Crocheted clothing is distinct and not available on the market because it is only one piece," Kana'an stated.
Kana'an aspires to have her own factory to produce distinctive crochet pieces and to learn young girls the art of grandmothers.
