HIMSS Analytics announced yesterday that Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of Mubadala's network of world-class healthcare facilities, has achieved the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption ModelTM (EMRAM) Stage 6, an international benchmark for the use of advanced IT to improve patient care.
This award places Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi among an elite group of world-class healthcare facilities that have successfully deployed a high level of health IT to improve healthcare outcomes. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi also has the unique distinction of being Stage 6-enabled upon opening in March 2015.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's achievement follows last year's attainment of the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Ambulatory Award by Cleveland Clinic Health System. Apart from Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, there are 15 HIMSS EMRAM Stage 6 hospitals in the Middle East. There are no hospitals at Stage 7 yet.
John H. Daniels, Global Vice President, Healthcare Advisory Services Group, HIMSS Analytics, said, "Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is one of the most impressive hospitals I have visited around the world. They have replicated many of the highly successful processes used in the Cleveland Clinic main campus in the U.S., and it shows. They are virtually paperless, they use unit-dose barcodes on all medications and blood products, and all clinical documentation is completed in the electronic medical record with extensive clinical decision support capabilities. This is a highly IT-advanced healthcare organisation already well on its way to achieving Stage 7."
Mike Reagin, Chief Information Officer, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said, "We are honoured and delighted to achieve the HIMSS EMRAM Stage 6 Award, for our advanced technological capabilities to deliver high-quality, safe and efficient patient care. This award affirms our commitment to delivering Cleveland Clinic-calibre care, enabled by our virtualised technology systems."
