When Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai walked the red carpet at Cannes on Friday, her Cinderella-esque gown made sure she grabbed all the eyeballs. However, not many know the show-stopping dress has a Dubai connection.
The actress looked straight out of a fairy tale in her powder blue floor-sweeping ballroom gown by Dubai-based Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco. Those who attended the designer’s last show at Fashion Forward in March, would remember
The off-shoulder piece was featured in the designer’s last show in Dubai at Fashion Forward in March.
The dress was from Cinco’s “Impalpable Dream of Versailles” collection, and featured endless layers of tulle.
Cinco got his big break after moving to Dubai from the Philippines 19 years ago. He established his label by catering to the region’s rich and famous. He has fans in Hollywood celebrities such as Beyonce, Rihanna and Lady Gaga.
The designer who is currently busy with the Arab Fashion Week realized his gown was a hit when people started tagging him on Instagram.
“It was a dream come true for me,” Cinco told Khaleej Times.
Voted as one of the most beautiful women in the world, Rai is a Cannes veteran, gracing the festival for 15 years.
