Arab foreign ministers began their preparatory meeting on the shores of the "Dead Sea" of Jordan two days before the launch of the Arab Summit scheduled to be held on Wednesday. The meeting was opened with the speech delivered by Mauritanian Foreign Minister Isselkou Ould Ahmed Izid Bih in which he underlined the prominent Arab issues and the decisions issued by the recent summit held in Nouakchott. Then, he handed over the summit’s presidency to his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Al Safedi.
During his speech, Jordan’s Foreign Minister said, “We met during a number of Arab critical issues depriving our region from security and stability which we need to meet the demands of our people to achieve development, education, work and hope.” He blamed the current Arab regional regime for the failure to resolve the crises and contain the current collapse. He added that the Arab citizen’s confidence in the Arab joint work institutions allowing the other regional powers interfere in the Arab world’s internal affairs.
Safedi described the meeting as an opportunity to achieve accordance among the Arab states over the different controversial issues, saying, “We have our differences, while we should achieve accordance over the visions aiming to resolve the Arab crises as soon as possible.”
Regarding the Syrian crisis, Jordanian official said that the Arab countries agreed that it should be resolved through a peaceful solution to meet the aspirations of the Syrian people and to protect the unity of the country and its sovereignty. He also stressed the need for finding solution for the Yemeni crisis upon the decisions of international legitimacy and results of Yemen’s national dialogue in addition to the Gulf initiative.
In Libya, the Jordanian minister added, the Arab countried work to restore peace in the country upon a political solution based on Skheirat Agreement concluded in Morocco in 2015 to achieve the national reconciliation among Libyan conflicting parties.
According to Arab diplomat participating in the meetings, Arab Special Committee on Iran prepared a strong project against the Iranian interference in the internal affairs of the Arab countries. The source added that the project focuses on improving the cooperating relations between the Arab countries and the Persian state on the basis of good neighborliness and the respect of the states’ sovereignty.
