Cairo - MENA

Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb decided to name Presidential Adviser for National Projects Affairs Ibrahim Mahlab member of Bayt al Zakat (Or Zakat House) Trustees Council.

A statement released by Azhar Sheikdom on Tuesday said the Trustees Council will include, among others, Egypt's Mufti Shawqi Allam, former CBE Governor Farouk el Oqda, Ambassadress Faiza Abul Naga, Mohammad Khouri (from UAE) and Safwat el Nahhas, secretary general of Bayt al Zakat.

Zakat House is assigned with distributing aid to the needy and poor people and also supervises development projects to help the poor earn their living.

Zakat House is scheduled to discuss in its next meeting an executive plan for the upcoming five years.

Zakat is a form of alms-giving treated in Islam as a religious obligation or tax, which, by Quranic ranking, is next after prayers in importance. In most Muslim-majority countries, Zakat contributions are voluntary. Zakat is based on income and the value of all of one's possessions.
