National Institution of Human Rights (NIHR) Chairman Said bin Mohammed Al-Faihani received a delegation from Bahrain Free Labour Union Federation (Al-Hurr), led by Executive Council Chairman Yaqoob Mohamed Youssef.
He stressed the watchdog’s support to national enterprises and institutions towards consolidating labour rights, commending the crucial role of Bahrain workers in building the national.
The two sides discussed a proposal to sign a memorandum of understanding and hold joint meetings to discuss complaints forwarded to the Bahrain Free Labour Union Federation (Al-Hurr).
Al-Faihani stressed the importance of consolidating national unity and avoiding any sectarian, racist, or vindictive practices at private companies and enterprises.
He stressed the right of the national watchdog to uncover such practices and unveiled planned NIHR Certificates which would be granted to companies with a clean human rights record.
He said that companies which violate workers’ rights would not be awarded. The plan is still under study. .
The meeting was attended by NIHR Vice Chairman Abdulla Al-Derazi, Economic, Social and Cultural Committee chairperson Maria Khoury, committee member Dr. Aisha Mubarak and legal researcher Amani Al-Haddad
