Egypt held a celebration on Thursday to mark the World Maritime Day 2017, which is held under the theme "Connecting Ships, Ports and People."
The ceremony was held at the premises of the Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT).
The ceremony was attended by Transport Minister Hisham Arafat, Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Navy Ahmed Khaled, Northern Military Zone Commander Ali Ashmawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Maritime Safety (EAFMS) Khaled Zahran and Head of Maritime Transport Sector Tareq Ghanem.
The theme was chosen to provide an opportunity to focus on the many diverse actors involved in the shipping and logistics areas.
World Maritime Day 2017 is formally celebrated at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) on September 28. Member States and other entities are invited to celebrate with activities in the same week, and throughout the year.
