Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo
Accra - ArabToday

Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo on Friday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new Chancery building of the French embassy in Accra.

The new building will see the relocation of the embassy which is currently located near the seat of the Ghanaian government, Flagstaff House.

The location of the French embassy close to the Flagstaff House has raised security concerns for Ghana since its construction a decade ago.

President Akufo-Addo expressed the confidence that the edifice of the new Chancery building would be the foundation stone and continuation of the growing interest of France in Ghana's Developmental Agenda.

"I trust that those given the onerous responsibility of constructing this new building, will deliver efficient and timely work so that its opening will help to expand the already cordial relations between Ghana and France," he said.

Ghana's relation with France was established soon after Ghana's Independence in 1957 and has since grown from strength to strength.

The French ambassador to Ghana Francois Pujolas said the building is a symbol of the confidence his country has in Ghana.

The new edifice is expected to be completed by 18 months.
