New opinion polls carried out after the announcement of the first round results of the French presidential elections suggested that Centrist Emmanuel Macron would easily beat far-right leader Marine Le Pen in the second round, due on May 7.
The two polls by Ipsos Sopra Steria and Harris Interactive showed that Macron would win 62-64% against 36-38% for National Front leader Le Pen if the run-off was held today.
The French Interior Ministry announced that centrist Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen led the first round of France's presidential election, qualifying for a second-round runoff in two weeks.
According to the final voting figures released by the Ministry, Macron got 23.75% of votes and Le Pen got 21.53%.
