Mauritanian Consul General in Jeddah Al-Damman Wald Hamar has appealed to Saudi businessmen to invest in Mauritania, taking advantage of the appropriate investment climate in his country and the facilities provided by the government to foreign investors.
The diplomat was speaking at an event here on Monday celebrating the 56th independence day of Mauritania. A number of diplomats of Arab, foreign and African countries attended.
Welcoming the guests, Hamar said Saudi Arabia was one of the first Arab and Islamic countries that established a strong, honest relationship with Mauritania. "The Kingdom has provided Mauritania with both material and moral support generously over the decades.”
“The Mauritanian people agree that the two countries have seen in recent years a quantum leap in relations at various levels through the leaderships of the two countries. The political coordination has witnessed an important development with regard to combating terrorism,” he said.
Mauritania-Saudi relations date back to before the emergence of the modern Islamic Republic of Mauritania.
Speaking to Arab News, Hamar referred to King Faisal’s visit to Mauritania in 1972, which saw a significant shift and the start of fraternal relations and bilateral cooperation at political, economic, cultural and scientific levels.
Former Saudi Ambassador to Mauritania Saud bin Abdul Aziz Al-Jabri said he was happy to be part of the celebration of Mauritanian independence day. “I served as the king’s ambassador to Mauritania from 2008 to 2014 and they were the most beautiful years of my life,” he said.
Al-Jabri commended the Saudi-Mauritanian relations and encouraged businessmen and investors to invest in Mauritania, “the land of a million opportunities.”
