Cairo - Arab Today

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday underscored the importance of developing bilateral relations with Eriteria at all levels, in light of the distinctive and historic ties binding the two countries.

These remarks were made following Sisi's reception of President of Eritrea Isaias Afwerki, who is currently on a business visit to Egypt.

According to presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef, President Sisi stressed the importance of activating the joint Egyptian-Eritrean committee in order to boost bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture, livestock and fishery.

The President also called for continuing technical support programs presented by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD).

Meanwhile, the Egyptian leader hailed cooperation between Cairo and Asmara, asserting the importance of enhancing coordination and consultation within the framework of efforts seeking to maintain peace and stability in the region.

Egypt's foreign policy is based on not interfering in the affairs of other countries, Sisi said. Egypt is open to all and seeks to establish balanced relations with world countries, he added.

The Eritrean president, for his part, voiced appreciation for Egypt's leading role in promoting development in addition to maintaining security and stability in Africa.

Asmara is looking forward to enhancing cooperation with Cairo in various fields in a way that serves the interests of both peoples, he noted.
