Yemeni President Abdel Rabou Mansour Hadi received here UN Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed in the presence of Vice President and Prime Minister Khaled Bahah.
During the meeting, that was held late Sunday, Hadi asserted that legitimate authority wanted peace and is willing to restore the power usurped by the use of arms to the official state foundations.
Hadi also called for applying UN resolutions on Yemen, especially resolution 2216 which established an arms embargo on the Houthis and forces loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh and demanded that all parties in the embattled country, in particular the Houthis, immediately and unconditionally end violence and refrain from further unilateral actions that threatened the political transition.
He also termed as "war crimes" the attacks carried out by Houthis on residential areas in Taez, Mareb, Hodeida and Abe with the use of heavy arms and targeting of medical facilities and Red Crescent teams.
The Yemeni president also praised the efforts and backing of the Arab coalition forces to the Yemeni army and popular resistance, calling on the international community to actively contribute to clearing the Yemeni cities from the Houthis militas.
UN envoy for Yemen arrived here four days ago coming from Muscat with a response from the Houthis and their affiliate the Congress Party on an initiative presented by the Yemeni government to realize peace in Yemen.
