Four miners died and 57 others were left trapped following an accident that occurred Thursday at the state-owned Qianqiu Coal Mine of Yima Coal Group in Henan province, a company spokesman said.
According to Xinhua news agency, a rock burst occurred in the 760-metre-deep mine shaft, trapping the miners, adding that 14 of the 75 miners inside the mine were rescued; four were confirmed dead and the rest were still trapped in the shaft.
The rock burst happened half an hour after a 2.9 magnitude earthquake shook Henan's Sanmenxia city, where the mine is located, said local officials, without indicating whether the earthquake directly caused the accident.
Rescue operations are still underway.
