At least nine people have been killed and one injured after a car collided with bus in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, officials said Wednesday.
The accident took place near Gonda-Behraich highway in Barabanki district, about 39 km east of Lucknow, the capital city of Uttar Pradesh.
"A roadways bus going to Lucknow collided head-on with an SUV car near Chowkaghat railway station on Gonda-Behraich highway here, killing eight people on spot and injuring two others. Of the injured, later on one succumbed to his injuries in hospital, while as the condition of other one is stated to be critical," a police official said.
According to the official, driver of SUV while overtaking a vehicle in front of him could not see a bus coming from opposite direction due to morning fog.
The deceased nine people were travelling in SUV and included three women and two children, officials said.
Reports said some passengers in the bus also received minor injuries due to the impact of accident.
Deadly road accidents are common in India often caused due to overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving.
India's ministry of road transport in 2015 said 146,133 people were killed and 500,279 others injured in 501,423 road accidents across the country.
