A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday expressed condolences to Taiwan compatriots who were affected by recent typhoons.

The mainland will support all efforts in disaster prevention and to improve the welfare of people across the Strait, said Ma Xiaoguang, spokesperson for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office.

Typhoon Megi killed four people and injured 268 others in Taiwan, as it traveled across the island on Tuesday.

Megi, the third typhoon to hit the island in two weeks, followed Typhoon Meranti and Typhoon Malakas.
