President of the University of Bahrain (UoB) Dr. Riyadh Yusef Hamza described the first Scientific women Forum, which will be held at UoB next week, as an essential step for women working in the applied sciences field given the scientific and practical specificity of their work. He stressed the university’s keenness on equal opportunities between men and women as part of its national duty to contribute to building a community based on gender equality and providing equal opportunities for both men and women to serve their nation.
The forum, which is organised by the university’s Equal Opportunities Committee, will be held on May 8 and will focus on boosting equality and empower women in sciences, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).
The event will be patronised by Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) Hala Al Ansari and sponsored by Tamkeen and the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC). It will constitute one of the functions associated with Bahraini Women’s Day 2017 which celebrates women’s achievements in the engineering field.
The forum will cast light on women’s achievements in STEM and the need to empower women taking up leading posts. It will also serve as a platform to identify shortcomings and mend the gap in the afore-mentioned fields. Participants will hold discussion sessions with SCW and other relevant institutions
