A Monday concert by Johnny Depp's French ex-girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis, in France's city of Lyon has been cancelled because of a strike by disgruntled theatre workers.
Organisers of Lyon's Nuits de Fourviere festival of music, theatre and dance said Sunday that Paradis's show was one of three that had to be scrapped because of the action called to protest government plans to cut the workers' benefits.
Theatre workers, singers and actors across France have been holding rolling strikes and demonstrations against the measure, which they say undermine France's commitment to culture.
They have stepped up their protests since the beginning of this month, threatening several summer festivals across the country.
Paradis, a 41-year-old singer and actress, split with Hollywood star Depp, 51, two years ago after a relationship of 14 years. They had two children together.
