Was Lady Gaga's Singapore concert racy? Raunchy? Naughty? Absolutely. There were some shocking bits of her show, like when she lay on her back, spread her legs and presented her crotch to a muscular dancer while wearing a strange black costume, or when she pranced around on stage in a revealing lingerie-inspired outfit. But take the time to look beyond it and it becomes clear there is more to Lady Gaga than her controversial fashion sense and suggestive dance moves. Save for a few sequences in her show, which looked like scenes from some bizarre adult film, Lady Gaga's concert on Monday was very much like any other good music concert. It featured spectacular theatrics, great music as well as slick dance moves, performed by the Lady along with her band of impossibly fit, energetic dancers. The audience moved to the music and was entranced right from the moment Lady Gaga appeared on stage atop a prop black unicorn. They cheered when she belted out hits like "Born This Way", "Bad Romance", "The Edge of Glory" and "Poker Face". Her charisma and showmanship got the sell-out crowd at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on their feet, chanting her name and waving their 'claws' - Lady Gaga's signature hand gesture – in the air. However, it was only when she took a break from the music about half way through the show, and embarked on a quiet, intimate 'chat session' with her audience, that it finally became clear what her true appeal is. She makes people feel good about themselves. Some concert-goers were spotted wiping tears from their eyes as Lady Gaga recounted how she was once thrown into a dumpster by a few nasty boys in high school, and was made to feel like "a loser" while her friends simply stood by. But they brightened up when she encouraged them to keep going like she did after the incident. "Some of your might feel you're in the trash, but you have something very special inside to give, very special," said Lady Gaga as her fans roared in approval. The audience really identified with Lady Gaga and her philosophy. "At the end of the day, we are all flesh and blood and we all deserve to be happy," the star added during another break in the music, going on to thank the audience for being such "wonderful, talented fans". It really has little to do with her music, or her provocative costumes, but a lot to do with what she claims to stand for. She essentially tapped into a very fundamental human emotion, the yearning to be seen as special and yet belong to a certain group, to be accepted, during her breathtaking concert. The shocking sequences, the outlandish outfits, were all designed to simply entertain and not so much offend. Although it can be hard for cynics to keep a straight face when Lady Gaga said, "If I have to give it all back tomorrow … I'll do it in a heartbeat if it means I'd have you (her fans, her 'Little Monsters') forever!", it's also very hard for everyone else not to like the sexy, bubbly, vivacious star. Her peppy speeches, her intimate conversations with the audience, all prove that Lady Gaga definitely has a way with words. Perhaps she is just born this way. How else could anyone explain her unique description of Singapore's weather? "Your country is so beautiful. It's hot, but it's the good kind of sexy hot," cooed Lady Gaga, as she playfully ran her hands along her loins.
