Los Lobos, one of the defining Latin-rock crossover acts, have announced a new album that the band promised will offer reflections on the immigrant experience and aging.
"Gates of Gold" is the first new material from the Los Angeles-bred band since 2010.
The 11 songs "are snapshots of true life moments with themes ranging from the immigrant experience in America to melancholic ruminations on impending mortality," a statement from the band said.
Led by 60-year-old vocalist and guitarist David Hidalgo, the band promised an extensive tour to promote the album, which will come out on September 25.
Los Lobos, which means "the wolves" in Spanish, had their start in the early 1970s as they brought together US rock 'n' roll with "nortenos" and other styles associated with Mexico and Mexican Americans.
The band is best known to non-Spanish-speaking audiences for its 1987 cover of Ritchie Valens' "La Bamba," the title track to a movie on the life of the Chicano rocker.
