Damascus - Rajaa Aisami

Syrian artist Rouwaida Attieh has denied boycotting the Syrian artist Asala Nasri's programme "Sola" for her political opinions towards the Syrian regime, saying:"Each person is free to express his/her opinion".  Attieh revealed in a TV interview that she "refused to show up in the programme once she realised that it will not add any benefit to her career". In the meantime, Attieh asked Allah to "protect Syria and make it secure", stressing that it was necessary for "Syrians as a whole to preserve Syria from entering into a civil war as we are all Syrians". Attieh also stated "no artist should be politicised because he/she is for all the people," rejecting the idea of classifying artists in lists of honour and shame, since the aim is the same which is safety and security for the country. "Diversity of views among artists does not mean doubting patriotism among each other," she said.
