Alphabet quarterly profit climbs on ads and other bets

Google-parent Alphabet on Thursday reported that its profit in the recently ended quarter climbed 32.4 percent to $6.7 billion with revenue up from online ads as well as "other bets."
Alphabet said revenue in the quarter was $27.8 billion, up 24 percent from the same period a year earlier, with chief financial officer Ruth Porat crediting "strength across Google and Other Bets."
