Jordan's Civil Defense spokesman says 14 people were killed and 22 injured Thursday when torrential rains swept away a group of students and teachers touring near the Dead Sea.
The official news agency Petra says Jordanian Prime Minister Omar Razzaz was on the scene to oversee the rescue mission.
Israel sent search-and-rescue helicopters to assist Jordan following the flash flood, an Israeli military statement said.
It said the Israeli team, dispatched at Amman's request, was operating on the Jordanian side of the Dead Sea.
