College football star Michael Sam, who became the first openly gay NFL player over the weekend, is getting a reality television show on the Oprah Winfrey Network. The network announced the news Wednesday explaining that the "multi-part" documentary series will be about Sam's journey as he joins the NFL. The former Missouri linebacker will be followed around by a TV crew for the show. The St. Louis Rams, who picked Sam in their 7th round during Sunday's NFL draft, are willing to cooperate with producers for The Untitled Michael Sam Project. "Michael is focused on football and making the St. Louis Rams team," Sam's publicist, who is also one of the show's producers, said. "We're going to work with the Rams organization to make sure the show doesn't interfere with his primary goal." The series will be produced by Emmy-winner Craig Piligian and directed by Emmy-nominated Anne Rice, who also collaborated with OWN for its Lindsay Lohan docu-series. "Like every player out there working to make a team right now, my focus is on playing football to the very best of my ability," Sam said. "I am determined. And if seeing my story helps somebody else accept who they are and to go for their dreams too, that's great. I am thankful to Oprah for her support and excited to work together."
