Yosra el-Louzy dies in TV show

Egyptian people have become increasingly politicised after the revolution, and this is evidenced by their reaction to the death of a popular character in a television show. The death of acclaimed actress Yousra el-Louzy's character in Ramadan drama "Khotot Hamraa" sparked an angry response from viewers, who took to social media websites to voice their discontent. One of the more popular pages was  “Kolena Yosra el-Louzy” (We Are All Yosra el-Louzy), a tongue-in-cheek reference to “Kolena Khaled Saeed” (We Are All Khaled Saeed), the campaign that boosted the pro-democracy revolution in Egypt last year. Khaled Saeed was killed in clashes with security forces in Alexandria after ousted president Hosni Mubarak imposed the emergency law. The witty responses to the death were flying thick and fast - some activists said they were not surprised at their favourite actor's death because, after all, the director of the series was Ahmed Shafik, in reference to the head of Egypt's military council, General Shafiq, who is reviled among revolutionary youths in particular.
