French thriller "Elle", late on Friday, won best film at the 42th annual Cesar Awards, one of the most prestigious national film awards dubbed as French Oscar.
Directed by Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven, "Elle" (She), starring Isabelle Huppert, features the story of Michel, a company manager who had been raped. Instead of reporting the incident to police, she decided to revenge on her rapist in a dangerous game of tracking and manipulation.
With "Elle", Huppert was awarded best actress for this year session. The 63-year-old veteran French actress also received Golden Globe best drama actress for the same role earlier this month.
Canadian Xavier Dolan won this year's Cesar Award for best director for "Just the End of the World", which was awarded the Grand Prix at the Cannes 2016 festival.
"Divines" of Houda Benyamina, winner of the Golden Camera at the Cannes 2016 Film Festival, won Cesar Award for best first film, best new actress, and best supporting actress.
France's Cesar Award, first awarded in 1976, is considered the highest film honor in France.
