The ski industry is taking cues from the hotel and airline industry with the launch of a tiered pricing system for lift tickets that cater to budget-conscious ski and snowboarders.
Dubbed an industry first, the largest online and mobile marketplace for ski resorts, Liftopia, is introducing three pricing options that offer a range of savings and flexibility for skiers who live with the slopes in their backyard, and those who’ll be traveling from afar.
Traditionally, lift tickets purchased on Liftopia must be purchased for use on specific dates. But tickets purchased under the Flexible category offer unlimited date changes during the season, while Value Plus allows buyers a one-time date change.
Though Value lift tickets are the most rigid -- date-specific, non-refundable and non-changeble -- they offer the deepest discounts with savings up to 85 percent off walk-up window rates, ideal for those who know the exact dates they plan to hit the slopes.
Liftopia sells lift tickets for about 250 ski areas across North America.
Similarly, Intrawest, parent company of six ski resorts in North America, recently launched a group ski pass that allows up to 16 people to take advantage of discounted prices.
After purchasing an adult season pass for $589 USD, up to five additional adults can be added for $449 each. Teens between the ages of 13 and 20 can also be added for $249 each and another five children under the age of 12 ski for free. The pass can be used at resorts in Canada and the US.
