Rather than laze around a pool on a vacation, merge some exercise in your break at some of the most scenic locales in the world Instead of just packing hats, vacation wear and more for your impending trip, why not add some workout clothes to the list? Some places can be beautiful and conducive to get that adrenaline going. Here's a list of the top five scenic workout spots... 1. Hiking in Italy While Italy may be the hub of cultural landmarks, it's also known for lovely terrain. The cliff side trek by the Cinque Terre is among the most beautiful hiking spots. There are five small villages perched above the Ligurian Sea, that cannot be reached by car and the trail goes through each of them. The other favourite is region of the Dolomites, with its majestic mountains and grassy meadows and pine forests. Hiking from Riomaggiore to Monterosso, is also quite a workout. 2. Sailing in Greece The best way to meander around the Greek islands is to go sailing! The islands were built and developed as ports, and you can take bareboat and skippered sailing yacht options. A unique aspect to this workout is you can plan the amount of activity you'd like to experience: The seacape, however, is brilliant, so adventurers will need a few days at least to cruise here. While Santorini is lovely you can also visit the chain of islands known as the Small Cyclades. At Naxos, most tourists go to the Temple of Demeter, and grab lunch in a tavern way up in the hills while at Mykonos you can moor at night at the old Cycladic capital city of Ermoupolis. 3. Snorkelling in St. John's, US Virgin Islands One of the most talked about sailing options, St John stands out among Caribbean destinations. The place has a shallow reef system as well as deep-water arches, caves and tunnels for advanced snorkellers who want to free dive. Waterlemon Cay is said to be more tranquil for underwater sightseeing options. Spot silver needlenosed gars, silverfish and other marine life here. Trunk Bay has an underwater snorkelling trail that guides swimmers while informing them of the various species of fish. Other snorkelling spots on the isle are Hawknest Bay and Cinnamon Bay. There is also a national park here. 4. Stand up paddle boarding in Hanalei Bay, Kauai, Hawaii If you're a water baby, Hanalei Bay with its two-mile of beach and mountains offers stand up paddle boarding and swimming. While the sport provides a great arm workout and a fun alternative for when flat conditions don't permit surfing. The buzz is, if you go far enough up the river you can even paddle underneath the Hanalei Bridge, historically considered the 'gateway to Hanalei'. Adventurers can also find the Kalalau Trail, an 11-mile route along the island's remote Na Pali Coast, regarded as the world's scariest hikes. 5. Cycling in Southeast Asia Southeast Asia is said to be quite a cyclist's paradise! The flat terrain plays host, as you rent a bike and explore places like Angkor Wat in Cambodia to the beaches in the south of Thailand or even the mountainous region of northern Laos. The lush and flat area of the Mekong Delta is also a delight for pedal pushers. Another great spot to travel on cycle is Vietnam, as its Route 1 is a straight shot from the capital city of Hanoi to the largest city in the southern region, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as Saigon). Remember to carry your camera along.
