A 950-bed hostel is set to open its doors in one of the trendiest neighborhoods of Paris, by a global brand that’s helped breed a new kind of low-budget student hostel: the ‘poshtel.’
Located in the 10th arrondissement by the Canal Saint-Martin and Buttes-Chaumont park in the east, the newest Generator Hostel will be the company’s biggest property to date.
Along with St Christopher’s Inn-Village, Clink and Safestay, Generator does away with the prison cell bunk beds and dirty showers of yore, and instead bills itself as an urban design and style-conscious hostel.
Generator Paris will open in what was once a derelict, office building and will include a range of en-suite dorms, private rooms and luxury penthouse apartments. Shared public spaces include a café, lounge, and basement bar.
The location should also appeal to the hostel’s target demographic, as the 10th arrondissement is popular among the city’s young, trendy, creative types for its density of cafés, galleries, bars, and hot dining addresses.
The property is a short 15-minute walk from Gare du Nord, the Eurostar train station that shuttles travelers between London and Paris.
Reservations for the Paris location are now open for stays beginning February 1.
Likewise, Generator Rome is set to open its doors in a 20th century residential building next year, located a short walk from the Colosseum and Termini Station.
The 80-room property will be able to accommodate 264 guests and features a rooftop terrace that offers sweeping views of the city.
All Generator properties come with free wifi.
The latest hostels are designed by Toronto-based The Design Agency.
In less than three years, Generator has expanded its number of properties from two to 10, making it the fastest-growing hostel brand in the world.
Properties already exist in London, Dublin, Copenhagen, Berlin, Hamburg, Venice and Barcelona and will expand to Amsterdam, in addition to Paris and Rome, by the end of 2015.
Prices start at €25 per person in a dorm room and from €49 per person in a private twin room.
