New World Hotels & Resorts has been appointed to manage a new landmark property in Kota Kinabalu.
Set to open in 2018, the New World Kota Kinabalu Hotel will occupy the top floors of Skycity, a new mixed-use development comprising the hotel, high-end office space, a shopping mall and two towers of serviced apartments. The project will be located in Karamunsing, close to the Kota Kinabalu city centre.
“Kota Kinabalu’s vibrancy and natural charm, as well as its easy accessibility from the key feeder markets of mainland China and Hong Kong, will set up New World Kota Kinabalu Hotel for success,” said Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group, the parent company of New World.
The hotel will be spread across the top 16 floors of the tower, offering views of the city, the South China Sea and Mount Kinabalu. It will feature 400 rooms and suites, an executive lounge, two restaurants, a lobby bar, sky bar, sky pool, spa and gym. There will also be 3,883m² of meeting space.
The Kota Kinabalu project adds to New World’s existing pipeline, which includes six new hotels in China, opening between 2016 and 2019, and the New World Manila Bay Hotel in the Philippines, which will launch on 1 January 2015.
