With the Embassy of Peru hosting the Peruvian Food Festival in cooperation with Intercontinental Riyadh Hotel and Peruvi restaurants chain, Peru’s Ambassador Carlos Zapata held a dinner reception for government officials, businessmen and members of the media.
The ambassador welcomed guests and spoke on investments in Peru, stating that Peru is one of the very few countries in the world that gives the foreign investor the same treatment as a local investor, and provides him with all the facilities necessary to establish his business. It sets no minimum limit for the value of investment in most fields.
The ambassador said that the main economic activities in Peru are mining, agrofood exports, and tourism. He expressed his hope to establish a direct commercial link between Peru and the Kingdom, as many Peruvian products in the Saudi market are present under trademarks of Western companies.
He explained that the biggest obstacle confronting trade between both countries is the long distance between them, but the distance is actually not more than the one between the Kingdom and China or Australia for that matter, but the lack of diplomatic representation in the past, and not having any contact between the two nations amplified the impression of distance, although both countries share many historical and cultural ties.
The ambassador also pointed out that food is considered one of the vital cultural ties between nations, and lauded the efforts of Mr. Adnan Kayal, who built on this idea with his restaurant which serves Peruvian food with a Saudi touch, Peruvi.
The Peruvian Food Festival is open to the public from Dec. 7 to 10 at the Intercontinental Riyadh Hotel.
