Abu Dhabi Ports, the manager and operator of commercial, leisure and community ports in Abu Dhabi, has joined with Tadweer, the Centre for Waste Management, CWM, and Green Mountains Environment and Transport, GMET, one of the UAE's largest liquid and bulk waste treatment and disposal providers, to promote recycling and enforce the regulatory requirements in the ports.

The two day intensive campaign, is entitled ‘Hand in Hand to Save the Earth' and is aimed at Abu Dhabi Ports' employees, port workers, tenants and shipping agents.

The event aims to highlight the importance of reusing and recycling everyday items and explains that under international maritime regulations, all waste from the port and surrounding locations must be separated into the different types, so that as much as possible can be recycled.

Capt. Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO Abu Dhabi Ports, said, "Around the world, regulation is pushing environmental considerations further up the agenda, while customers and retailers are increasingly focused on environmental sustainability and accountability in the supply chain.

"As an operator of international ports and trade and logistics zones we are conscious of these pressures and keen to act to preserve our natural resources. Recycling is one of the best ways that we can all make a positive impact on the world around us. This campaign will ensure that our customers, employees and stakeholders are all aware of their environmental responsibilities and the need for effective waste management."

Eisa Saif Al Qubaisi, General Manager, Tadweer, Centre for Waste Management - Abu Dhabi, said, "Our participation in this campaign aims to deepen our mutual collaboration with like-minded organisations such as Abu Dhabi Ports. This articulates our ongoing commitment to protect marine environment due to its vital importance as a major natural resource as well as its inseparable association with the emirate's economic, environmental and tourism development plans. In our ongoing efforts to maintain public health and aesthetic appearance of Abu Dhabi, at Tadweer we are keen to promote environmental awareness among all sections of the society towards creating a safer, cleaner and more sustainable marine environment in line with Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030."
