Dubai - WAM

As part of Dubai Municipality's constant efforts to keep the city clean and healthy, on Tuesday it launched a campaign entitled: "Say Yes to Clean Al Nakheel" in Deira. This is the fifth consecutive year the civic body has held this campaign in various areas of the city. Abdul Majeed Saifaie, Director, Waste Management Department, opened the campaign in front of Bani Yas Metro Station, in the presence of senior officials of Dubai Municipality and representatives of the partners and sponsors of the campaign. Saifaie said that the ten day campaign is aimed at spreading awareness among the community in keeping the city clean, smart and healthy getting rid of bad practices such as littering, spitting, smoking, drying cloths on balconies, amongst others. He shed light on the activities of the campaign, saying that the Waste Management Department has planned many programmes and activities to make the public aware of these unlawful and dirty practices as well as putting waste and drying clothes on balconies. "Dubai is the city of all its residents and visitors, we should keep it clean to show our good manners and sophisticated culture in front of the world. Dubai Municipality is doing its best, but the cooperation of the public is most important for the successful implementation of any good initiative. So, it is the responsibility of all, especially those who have lived a long time in Dubai, to work at spreading the culture of cleanliness among newcomers and visitors," he said. "Various competitions and awareness programmes are being organised for shops and business areas to encourage them to participate in the campaign activities. Posters and flyers are distributed in all areas of Al Deira. We also expect good cooperation from the media to make this campaign a huge success as usual," he said. He also warned that after the completion of the awareness campaign, the civic body will start imposing fines in cases of violations reported by the public or municipal officials as per the laws in place. "The civic body started the clean up campaigns focusing on specific areas in 2008 from Naif area, followed by Al Fahidi and Al Karama areas which are most crowded and active business areas in Dubai and this year we considered Deira for the same reasons," he added. Saifaie thanked participants during the opening ceremony, as well as the companies and individuals who registered as volunteers and partners with Dubai Municipality.
