Minister Khaled fahmi
Cairo - MENA

Egypt will speak for Africa at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris due to kickstart on Monday, said Minister of Environment Khaled Fahmi.

Representatives of 195 countries, including nearly 150 world leaders, will be attending the conference that will see an African initiative floated by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

In statements to MENA, Fahmi said Egypt will explain the African views at the conference on two initiatives dealing with the new and renewable energy in Africa and financial resources to meet the negative effects of the climate change in the black continent.

Africa needs between 700 and 800 MWs of electricity, he said, noting that Egypt also needs 300 MWs from new and renewable energy, according to the minister.

The Paris conference is a first step and is not the end of the road, he concluded.
