Eastern Province municipality spokesman Mohammad Al Siefyaan has asserted that the gardens, parks and streets of the Eastern Province do not contain poisonous flowers, countering recent claims to the contrary.
Speaking to Al-Riyadh, he said that the choice of flowers is undertaken carefully through the municipality's nurseries, with all decisions made by experts in flowers and plants in line with seasonal and other considerations.
He said that other nurseries are sometimes contracted by the municipality too, but confirmed that these are also inspected by qualified municipality professionals.
He noted that the General Department of Parks in the Eastern Province is in charge of all flower arrangements, and plants some 3 million flower plants every year in public places for the benefit of the public.
Al-Siefyaan said that the changes of the soil in numerous areas makes the colors of the flowers stand out in public places in the Eastern Province, but that they are not poisonous.
Most recently, the seafronts and the cornish area have been adorned with green areas and all-season flowers, while public roads and main streets in Dammam and the entrances to cities, as well as public facilities, have also been planted with flower plants.
Visitors and citizens in the governorate are being requested to take care of these flowers that offer a beautiful addition to Saudi cities.
Al-Siefyaan added that more than 9 million trees and saplings have also been planted during the past year all over the province. The share of green areas in the province has now increased to an estimated five square meters per individual, reported Al-Riyadh.
