The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretariat is posed to launch a wide scale campaign to raise public awareness of the rationalization of electricity and water in the member states.
The Secretariat has signed a contract with the GCC Joint Program Production Institution (GCCJPPI) to implement campaign, said GCC Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Affairs Abdulla Al-Shebli in a statement here on Thursday.
The campaign is part of efforts to disseminate the culture of rationalization and curb the amounts of lost power and water, he added.
Al-Shebli noted that the campaign seeks to convey the message to a wide range of citizens and residents in the GCC member states through the mass media, both audio and video, the Internet and mobiles as well as sports, cultural and social events.
Recent studies have set off the alarm bells revealing that an unprecedented rise in power and water consumption in the GCC over the past five years.
The GCC official stressed the importance of curbing unjustified loss and wrong use of power and water by all means that could foster the culture of rationalization.
