Dubai - Arabstoday
A resolution regulating the activities of pest control companies will ensure safety and put the UAE’s pest control industry on a par with other leading countries, experts and residents said. His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a resolution regulating activities of pest control firms in the country. “We welcome it and the resolution not only will ensure that people are safe as they will be dealing with certified professionals, it will also put the UAE on a par with other leading countries in this sector,” said Hani Shehadeh, President of Ecovar, which is the representative of National Pest Management Association in MENA region. Incidences of people fumigating their houses or engaging non-professionals for the job have been a cause of concern. His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a resolution regulating activities of pest control firms in the country. The resolution stipulates that pest control companies must obtain a license from local authorities to practice their activities. The firms are prohibited from using banned or unregistered pesticides and in order to be granted a license a pest control technician is required to have a diploma or degree from an accredited college or university in the fields of public health, environmental health, agricultural engineering and biology. “We can now be sure the companies we are dealing with are registered and that the pest control is effective,” said Shirley, a resident.
