Sudanese Minister of Water Mutaz Musa
Khartoum - MENA

Sudanese Minister of Water Resources, Irrigation and Electricity Mutaz Musa is looking forward that the current meeting of the Tripartite Technical Committee on Ethiopia's Renaissance Dam would come up with compromises on bones of contention between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan on the dam establishment

He said the three countries seek to come up with a thorough study on developing water resources through the Ethiopian dam.

Egypt presented two studies to Sudan and Ethiopia to outline the impact of the under-construction Renaissance Dam on it.

The three-day meetings of the committee kicked off here in the presence of water resources ministers from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia Hossam Moghazi, Moataz Moussa and Almayho Tigno respectively.

The committee includes 12 experts from Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia.

The meeting will discuss the technical and financial offers of the French and Dutch consultative companies which were selected to conduct the studies recommended by the international experts committee in the fields of the environmental, economic and social impacts of the Renaissance Dam.

In April, the three countries signed the Document of the Declaration of Principles on the Ethiopian renaissance dam.

Ethiopia is the source of around 85% of Egypt's Nile's water, mainly through rainfall in its highlands. Over 90% of Egyptians rely on water from the Nile's flows.

Egypt fears that the dlrs 4.6 billion hydropower plant, which Ethiopia is building on the Blue Nile, will diminish its share of the river's water, arguing its historic water rights must be maintained.
