Beijing - XINHUA

Power plants nationwide generated more electric power during the recent Spring Festival holiday than in the same period last year, according to new data. Electricity generated during the seven-day holiday increased 4.61 percent year on year to 70.77 billion kilowatt-hours (kwh), the State Electricity Regulatory Commission said. Power supplies remained stable and no serious electricity-related accidents occurred during the holiday, the commission said. China became the world's largest energy producer in 2012, with its annual electricity output totaling 4.94 trillion kwh, according to data previously released by the National Energy Administration. The country's total installed power generative capacity had reached 1.14 billion kilowatts by the end of 2012. The country's hydropower and wind power sectors boast the world's greatest power generation capacity in their respective sectors.
