Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) continues to enhance the efficiency and capacity of the production, transmission and distribution of water and electricity networks to meet the needs of consumers, developers and other business sectors as well as to support preparations for Expo 2020.
DEWA's efforts further support Dubai's leading position as a global hub for business, tourism, green economy and sustainability by providing reliable infrastructure that meets developmental requirements. They are in line with its strategic plan to increase the efficiency and reliability of its electricity and water systems to fulfil the needs of overall development in line with Dubai Strategic Plan.
"DEWA directly oversees all its projects by adopting the latest and best international standards in various fields of quality control. We promote the principles of quality, health and safety and environmental soundness across all our operations, in line with U.A.E. Vision 2021 and the Dubai Strategic Plan," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director & CEO of DEWA.
"The total capital spending for five years starting this year is Dh 55.216 billion across different sectors of DEWA. We are investing Dh 31.605 billion in production, Dh 8.621 billion in transmission and Dh 9.369 billion in power distribution. Dh 5.621 billion will be invested in the water sector. We have a clear plan for financing our projects and expansion plans based on the economic viability and importance of the projects we plan or adopt. Our goal is to achieve the highest standards of productivity, efficiency and financial performance," added Al Tayer.
By the end of last year, DEWA completed 19 main power stations with a capacity of 400kV and 194 substations of 132kV, as part of its plans to enhance the electricity network and meet the growing demand for power in Dubai. These stations are the backbone for DEWA's electricity transmission networks.
DEWA is moving forward with several vital development projects under its strategic plan to raise the efficiency and reliability of water systems to meet the growth in demand in different parts of Dubai. These efforts help meet the consumer expectations according to the highest levels of availability, reliability, efficiency and safety. The water transfer network has reached a total length of 1,404 km across Dubai.
