An EU-funded research project has produced the world'sfirst "solar" jet fuel from water and carbon dioxide (CO2).Researchers have for the first time successfully demonstrated the entire productionchain for renewable kerosene, using concentrated light as a high-temperatureenergy source, said an EU statement here Monday.The project called SOLAR JET is still at the experimental stage, with a glassful of jetfuel produced in laboratory conditions, using simulated sunlight.However, the results give hope that in future any liquid hydrocarbon fuels could beproduced from sunlight, CO2 and water, it noted.EU Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, Maire Geoghegan-Quinnstated : "This technology means we might one day produce cleaner and plentifulfuel for planes, cars and other forms of transport." "This could greatly increaseenergy security and turn one of the main greenhouse gases responsible for globalwarming into a useful resource," added the EU official.
