Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano stressed the importance of cementing cooperation with Egypt in the light of Cairo's decision to start a program for peaceful use of nuclear energy.
During a meeting with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday in the presence of Minister of Electricity Mohamed Shaker, Amano praised cooperation between Egypt and his agency.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Badr Abdel Ati said the meeting tackled the possible IAEA help to Egypt in the field of nuclear energy especially that Egypt is on the threshold of building a nuclear reactor for peaceful energy in cooperation with friendly countries.
According to the spokesman, Amano affirmed that his agency encourages the use of peaceful energy and nuclear technology transfer.
The meeting also tackled the framework agreement between the major powers and Iran and the role of the agency in putting the agreement into effect, as well as preparations for the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference.
